Moneywise Homeonwners Empowerment Special

The Moneywise New Homeowner’s Empowerment Special: Dare To Own is part two of a two-part motivational program designed to help Americans avoid losing their homes to foreclosure or mortgage scams. Hosted by Kelvin Boston, this special provides information on finding a mortgage, purchasing affordable homes and revitalizing communities that has been devastated by the mortgage crisis.

The program features home buying advice from the National Community Stabilization Trust, National Council of La Raza, National Credit Counselors of America, and Neighbor Works America. Using entertainment as the medium to deliver useful information, the special also features co-host comedic actress Kim Coles and musical performances by national recording artists Marcus Johnson, K’Jon, Raheem DeVaughn, Maysa, Freddie Jackson and Vickie Winans.

Meet the Artists:

Vickie WinansVickie Winans is a chart-topping gospel artist with six Grammy nominations. She recently broke Dottie People's long-standing record for most Stellar Award wins (four) for a female artist. She took home five Stellar Awards in 2004, including Artist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year for her most recent record, Bringing It All Together. Bringing It All Together peaked at no. 1 on Billboard Magazine's Top Gospel Albums chart and at no. 38 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Her recently released, traditional gospel favorite “How I Got Over”, debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard charts.

Kim ColesKim Coles is best known for her zany characters and outrageous sense of humor. Early highlights of her career included a gig as warm-up comedian for "The Cosby Show" and performing opening acts for popular musicians Luther Vandross, Bobby Brown and The O'Jays. Her big break arrived when she was cast by the Wayans brothers in the sketch show, "In Living Color." She is best known for her role as Sinclair on the sitcom "Living Single." Kim works steadily, appearing in sit-coms, reality shows, and game shows. She is also a successful author (I’m Free, But It Will Cost You) and playwright.

Raheem DeVaughnRaheem DeVaughn is a “neo-soul” balladeer and songwriter born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. Recording on the Jive record label, his debut album, The Love Experience (2005), reached no. 46 on the Billboard 200 album chart. It featured the singles "Guess Who Loves You More" and "You." His sophomore album Love Behind the Melody was released in January 2008. It features the singles "Woman", and "Customer", reaching no. 5 on Billboard. DeVaughn was nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2008 Grammy Awards for the single "Woman."

Freddie Jackson defines the term “soul-singer.” His gospel roots and smooth style have made him an important figure in R&B music. Best known for his 80’s hits “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake) and "You Are My Lady”, both topping the Billboard charts and achieving platinum sales. Today, Jackson frequently tours the U.S., Europe and Asia.

 

 

Maysa LeakMaysa Leak is a modern-day jazz diva. A former background singer with Stevie Wonder, Maysa is best known by fans of contemporary jazz for her solo work and for her work with the British band Incognito. In 2008, her solo project Metamorphosis peaked at no.1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Top 100 charts and no. 13 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Maysa has also collaborated with well-known jazz performers like Rick Braun, Will Downing, Jonathan Butler and Pieces of a Dream. Maysa lives in Baltimore, Md., with her son named Jazz.

 

MainoMaino (Jermaine Coleman) is a Brooklyn-Born rapper who has recently emerged on the music scene as a “new voice for the next generation” of rap music, representing a “more accessible” style and temperament. After several mix-tape releases and key guest features, Maino was offered a recording contract by Universal Records and later signed with Atlantic Records. His first single from his debut album If Tomorrow Comes is “Hi Hater.”
